Nothing Can Change…

Happy November 2!

As for a NaNoWriMo update, I was fairly successful yesterday in getting my word count (I think I’m like 50 words short), and I’m hoping to keep it up today. Anyways, yesterday I talked about an album that was coming out shortly. Today, I want to talk about something coming out a little further in the future. Here’s your hint:

“In my younger and more vulnerable years my father gave me some advice that I’ve been turning it over in my mind ever since.”

Did you guess it? Well, now I have to tell you to avoid copyright infringement… That quote is the beginning of: The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald.

Yes, this is one of the best books ever written, and yes you are allowed to disagree with me, but only if you’ve read it. If you haven’t, then please do so! Seriously, please do. Also, if you haven’t read it you may want to stop reading this post because I make no promises that there will not be spoilers. Sorry about that sentence, I hate double negatives too!

Oh, and because I love it so much I want all of you fellow nerds to see this video (again, only watch this if you’ve read the book). This video is amazing to me because I’m a bit obsessed with literary criticism and having book discussions. Please enjoy!

As some of you may know, next year is to be a year chock full of great movies. Not only will it be another Marvel-tastic year with the release of both The Avengers and The Amazing Spiderman, but we can also expect more amazing geek outs from The Hobbit and Star Trek 2. Plus, the long anticipated Hunger Games. Yes, I’m on that band wagon. (By the way, I credit my best friend for pointing out that all these movies are coming out next year to me.)

Anyways, though I am beyond excited for all of those releases, the one I’m going to talk about today is the movie based on the book I just quoted from. Yes, they are remaking The Great Gatsby, and Gatsby is to be none other than Leonardo DiCaprio! Perhaps you may be disappointed with this casting, but I am elated. I am also excited that Tobey McGuire (Did you notice that they both have two capitalizations in their last names? I did.) will be Nick! Can you say perfect cast? I can! Perfect cast!

So, for your enjoyment, here are some cast photos leaked from the set. I love these pictures. It’s perfect. I can’t use that word enough about this movie. However, I hope they do the book justice. Expect a review much later in this blog.

Did I mention that Isla Fisher is Myrtle? Is it just me or is that a little off? I guess I never imagined Myrtle as pretty, maybe that is just a personal bias because I don’t like the character.

How’s that for book accuracy?: “…Gatsby, in a white flannel suit, silver shirt, and gold-colored tie, hurried in.” (Chapter Five, Fitzgerald)

Well, here’s one more thing. If you don’t understand how important this gold tie and silver shirt that Gatsby is wearing are, I encourage you to read this website. Also, if you’re a symbolism nerd like myself you should read it. This page discusses all of the colors in The Great Gatsby and what they represent.

So who’s your favorite in The Great Gatsby? Mine is Owl Eyes, yes Owl Eyes. Well, he’s my favorite minor character… I love a lot about this book so that’s actually a very difficult question for me.

Okay, that’s enough from me. Here’s one song for today which references both the title of this post and the category of this post. Yes, I know this isn’t the original version of this song, but I’m a sucker for The Ramones. Also, sorry that this is a random Heroes tribute video, but it was the only clear version of the song I could find.

Just so you know, the original version of this song is by Max Frost & The Troopers. (That’s your trivia of the day.)
